Chest of Drawers

A chest of drawers is a natural spot for a styled vignette. Place a table lamp on top for bedside-friendly lighting, add a small tray for jewellery or loose change, and lean a piece of artwork against the wall behind. If your chest sits opposite the bed, a mirror above it bounces light around the room and makes the space feel larger. Painted chests in sage, navy, or charcoal add a colour accent to neutral bedrooms without overwhelming the palette.

Standard chests measure 50–80 cm wide, 40–50 cm deep, and 100–130 cm tall. A five-drawer chest handles one person's folded clothing comfortably. Solid hardwood models start around £300–£600 and last 20+ years. Engineered wood with veneer offers good value from £150–£400. Look for dovetail joints at the drawer corners and metal runners with soft-close — these are the clearest signals of build quality. Anchor any chest over 100 cm tall to the wall with anti-tip brackets.
