Pendant Lights

The rule of thirds applies to pendant placement: over a dining table, the pendant should be roughly one-third to one-half the table's width so it feels proportionate without overwhelming. Odd numbers work better visually — one large pendant or a cluster of three over an island creates a more natural rhythm than two. Mix materials for interest: a brass pendant above a wooden table, or a concrete shade in a white kitchen. Install every pendant on a dimmer for instant mood control from bright task light to soft evening ambiance.

Hang pendants 70–80 cm above the dining table surface, and at least 210 cm from the floor in walkthrough areas. A quick sizing guide: add your room's length and width in metres and multiply by 7 to get the pendant diameter in centimetres. Budget £50–£150 for well-designed single pendants, £150–£400 for designer pieces, and £200–£600 for multi-light clusters. Check whether the pendant takes a standard E27 bulb or has an integrated LED — replaceable bulbs give more long-term flexibility.
